Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis

Former Portuguese Museum of Paintings and Prints and the first public art museum of Portugal, founded in 1833. It has been installed since 1940 in Palácio dos Carrancas, built at the end of the 19th century. XVIII, by a wealthy family with furniture, goldsmith's, painting, textiles and glasses, with highlight to the Desterrado, masterpiece of the patron of the museum, the sculptor António Soares dos Reis. The Museum underwent a profound renovation and enlargement, according to the project of the architect Fernando Távora, who, preserving the characteristics of the historic building, provided it with new and qualified interior and exterior spaces. It has a cafeteria, library, accessible by appointment, education service and multimedia room. and currently classified as a property of public interest. It has collections of ceramics, sculpture, engraving, jewelery.
