Jardim da Foz

The Foz Gardens extend along Avenida Montevideo and Avenida do Brasil, on the seafront of Porto. Going through these gardens of the first half of the century. XX are several points of interest that remember different historical and allegorical characters. At the beginning of Avenida de Montevideu is a fountain inaugurated in 1931 by the architect Manuel Marques, which is one of the rare examples of monumental fountains built in Oporto in the 20th century. Also on Avenida Montevideo is the 'Man do Leme', a statue inaugurated in 1934 that pays homage to the men of the sea. In Avenida Brasil, one discovers a bust that represents Luís de Camões, one of the most outstanding personages of the Portuguese culture of the Renaissance, by Irene Vilar. Still on Avenida Brasil can be observed a sculpture of 1937 that represents a lifesaver in the middle of a storm, by the author of Henrique Moreira.
