Alfândega Nova do Porto

Alfândega Nova do Porto

Building of neoclassical typology, built under the Anglo-Palladian line, in the 19th century, according to the project of the engineer Jean FG Colson. It has two façades, one facing the Douro and the other facing the city. Of note are the structural solutions that have used iron in combination with other materials - stone, brick or wood - depending on the functionality of the different spaces.

In 1987 it was decided to install in the building of the future Museum of Transport and Communications, belonging to the Association with the same name. As such, restoration and adaptation works were started, according to the project of the architect Eduardo Souto Moura.

The Association for the Museum of Transport and Communications (AMTC) also offers a Congress and Exhibition Center, distributed throughout the various Customs spaces, and a Training Center.
